Dancer Wellness Screen

Atlanta Dance Medicine’s Dancer Wellness Screen is a comprehensive assessment of a dancer’s strength, flexibility, balance and proprioception, posture and turnout, basic technique, and cardiovascular health. Our goal is to discover and address any limitations or weaknesses that may lead to injury in the future.

During the screen, each dancer is given exercises and referrals specific to the findings. Following the screen, dancers may sign up for dance-specific training sessions to address screen results.

ADM believes wellness screens are especially important now due to the prolonged period dancers spent out of the studio during the COVID pandemic; further, they will be vital for any dancer that contracted and recovered from COVID-19. These screens are also appropriate for dancers preparing for Summer Intensive season or for pointe readiness.

Please note that Dr. Courtney Johnson also offers a similar screen for gymnastics, tumbling, and aerial athletes.

Wellness screens are not considered medical services and will not qualify for insurance reimbursement.

Dance/Sport-Specific Training

Following a Wellness Screen, dancers and athletes may sign up for dance or sport-specific training sessions to address individualized screen results. These customized training sessions give dancers and athletes time to work on specific goals and learn injury prevention strategies from our highly-trained performing arts physical therapists. Sessions may include strength training, cardiovascular endurance, flexibility and technical training.

Training sessions are not considered medical services and will not qualify for insurance reimbursement.
